Your Conservative Councillors are demanding accountability after Green and Labour councillors in Trafford failed to support a Conservative-led motion calling for a national inquiry into child exploitation. This comes despite an alarming 827% increase in reported cases within Trafford, a statistic that has left many residents shocked and outraged.

During the council meeting, Conservative councillors asked their colleagues whether they had reviewed the official report detailing the scale of cases in the borough. Despite no clear confirmation that they had even seen the report, Green and Labour councillors still voted against an inquiry, choosing silence over action.

“This is not about politics; this is about protecting vulnerable children,” said Cllr Eckersley Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group "With such a massive rise in reported cases, we need transparency, accountability, and action – not silence.”

The refusal to back a national inquiry raises serious concerns over the council’s commitment to addressing CSE and safeguarding children. The Trafford Conservative Councillors are calling on Trafford Labour and Greens to immediately reconsider its stance and for local MPs to step in and demand an urgent review.

We are now exploring additional measures, including:

  • Submitting a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to get further information.
  • Pressuring local and national media to highlight the council’s inaction.

“We will not allow this issue to be ignored. Cllr Nathan, Leader of the Trafford Conservative group, believes,  "Every child in Trafford deserves to be safe, and every resident deserves to know that those in power are taking this crisis seriously.”
