Trafford Conservatives call out Green Party’s ideological amendment on school places crisis.
The Trafford Conservative Group has slammed a Green Party amendment to their motion on the urgent shortage of school places in South Trafford, accusing the Greens of prioritising political ideology over the needs of local children and families.
At the upcoming Council meeting on 16 July, Conservatives will present a detailed and evidence-based motion calling for practical steps to address the severe lack of secondary school places in the borough — including a new school and improved planning processes.
Instead of supporting real action, the Green Party has tabled an amendment that would:
- Abolish all academies nationally and place every school under council control
- Demand centralised admissions across the country
- Launch a political attack on the inspection and curriculum system
- Add conferences and bureaucracy, but no new school places
Leader of the Conservative Group Councillor Evans said:
“This motion is about our children, their education, and their future. The Green Party want to hijack it to make a political point — but Trafford families need action, not ideology.
Labour can’t even fix the potholes or balance the books. And now their allies in the Green Party want to give them control of every school? It’s completely out of touch.”
The Conservative Group is calling for:
- Immediate planning for a new secondary school in South Trafford
- A review of demographic data and pupil movement trends
- Pressure on the Department for Education to back local infrastructure
- A stop to political point-scoring at the expense of families
“We are focused on delivery, not distractions. Parents in South Trafford want school places — not a national debate about governance and inspection frameworks. This is too important for politics.”
