Following last night’s Executive meeting, Trafford Conservatives are raising serious concerns over the Council’s use of 2024 data to assess school place sufficiency.
Conservative Group Leader Cllr. Evans has formally written to the Corporate Director of Children’s Services and Cllr. Carter, Executive Member for Children and Young People, to demand the most up-to-date figures.
We’re particularly alarmed by long-term projections—such as the assumption that the 76-home Thorley Glade development in Timperley will only generate 12 additional pupils. This drastically underestimates the real impact, especially in a borough like Trafford where families move specifically for the high-quality schools.
The Council argues that falling birth rates mean fewer places will be needed over time. We’re not convinced. Right now, many children are already being placed far from home, relying on multiple forms of transport to get to school.
Using outdated data only worsens the issue. Trafford Conservatives will continue to hold the Council to account on this. The current system is failing families—and it cannot continue.
