Trafford Conservatives call for free, short stay parking to help our high streets

With the news that Trafford Council is to receive Government funding to prepare for the safe opening of high streets and other retail spaces, Trafford Conservatives are calling on the Labour administration at the Council to kick-start the Trafford economy by offering free, short stay parking in the borough.

Parking for 2 hours in a council car park in Trafford is a disincentive for residents when they can park for free at other locations in the borough. By offering free, short stay parking, Trafford Conservatives believe that visitors will be encouraged to return to towns and district centres.

Cllr. Dave Morgan, Shadow Executive Member at Trafford Council for Housing and Regeneration said “We all know how valuable our high streets are and how vital they will be to getting Trafford back up and running. With the Council to receive Government funding to support a range of safety measures that will help local businesses get back on track, now is an ideal time to review car parking charges in our towns as we move into preparing for the reopening of non-essential retail.

“Councillors are regularly contacted by residents who are frustrated with Council parking charges when they can park for free in some non-council operated car parks. To level up and support our high streets, Conservatives are calling for this small change which would be funded by government grants and would boost Council income in the long-term through helping to retain rate paying businesses in our town centres.

“As part of Trafford Conservatives campaign to support out town centres, there is also a short survey that residents can complete to share their views on parking in the borough. The survey can be accessed at https://www.traffordconservatives.com/news/trafford-conservatives-call-free-short-stay-parking-help-our-high-streets “
