Last week Trafford Conservatives were concerned to hear the news that national government are deciding to buy up hotels to use for asylum seekers. Trafford Conservatives wanted to ensure that Cresta Court, currently being used for asylum seekers in Altrincham, is not bought up by government to be used permanently as a hotel for asylum seekers.
The use of Cresta Court to house asylum seekers was imposed upon Altrincham without consultation with local businesses and residents, with no forum for anyone to object or to raise any particular issues. For Cresta Court to then be bought up by government to be used on a permanent basis, would be unacceptable. The loss to local business from lack of use of the hotel by tourists is causing issues, and the need to ensure healthcare needs are seen to has already become problematic. It is vital that this does not become a permanent situation.
The Trafford Conservative group has written to the Home Office, the MP for Altrincham and Sale Connor Rand MP, and the leader of Trafford Council (Councillor Ross). We will update you all further when we receive responses, and are going to continue to apply pressure to ensure Cresta Court does not become accommodation for asylum seekers on a permanent basis.
