£ 20m - Development of Goodwood Field on Manor Avenue
Despite significant public outcry, Trafford's Labour-run
Executive has approved a 25-year lease for an acre of
Goodwood Field, risking the permanent loss of green space,
worsening parking and traffic on Firs Road, and threatening the
future of local community sports and services. Your
Conservative team is challenging the decision and fighting to
protect Sale West's vital amenities.
On 1 December 2025, Trafford Council’s Labour-run Executive “in principle approved” a 25-year
lease for around one acre of Goodwood Field to the Three Meem Foundation despite significant
objections from residents and Conservative councillors. This would allow a 1,500sqm community
and prayer centre to be built on legally protected green space — meaning part of Goodwood Field
could be lost permanently.
The Three Meem Foundation has also been permitted by the Council to run the consultation
process. Many residents like us believe this creates a conflict of interest, as the organisation is
both the applicant and the intended user of the site. We have challenged this.
Residents have raised several serious concerns, including:
• Parking and congestion: Firs Road already struggles at school times. A large centre would
attract regular visitors and worshippers, increasing pressure on surrounding streets.
• Traffic and safety: More vehicles could create unsafe conditions for families walking to Firs
Road Primary and encourage rat-running through residential roads.
• Impact on sports facilities: One of The Firsway pitches would be removed and others altered,
reducing access for residents.
• Loss of green space: Goodwood Field is the last major open green area in Sale West. Once
built on, it cannot be replaced.
• Future of the Sale West Community Centre: Many fear that services currently provided on
Newbury Avenue — including youth groups and family activities — could be scaled back or
relocated.
We believe the community should not lose valued green space, sports facilities, or local services.
These amenities are vital to daily life in Sale West and must be protected.
Your Manor Ward and Ashton upon Mersey Conservative team supports residents in opposing the plans to build on
Goodwood Field and remains deeply concerned that residents' views are being ignored.
