Roads and Pavements

Over the next 12 months Trafford Conservatives will boost investment in Trafford's highways and transportation to over £15million (compared to £1.9m under Labour).

We remain committed to addressing residents concerns over our roads and pavements and ensure that significant investment is made to reverse the years of decline. Building upon significant investment over the last 12 months we will be spending £8m pounds over the next 12 months directly on our roads, and pavements (60km), footpaths and street lights (750). But it is not just about investment - we believe in efficiency too and in 2008/9 our contractors will deliver even more for every pound spent.

Against Congestion Charging

We consulted extensively in Trafford about Labour’s proposed Congestion Charge - we remain opposed to this stealth tax and the effect that this would have on our Borough. Rather than taxing people off the roads we are investing in forward thinking initiatives such as the traffic lights along the A56 which should improve traffic flows for all forms of transport, thereby reducing congestion.

For Road Safety

The safety of all our road users continues to be of great importance to us and this year we are determined to tackle key accident hotspots by re-focusing attention on these areas. Meanwhile we will continue to promote road safety education in our schools through our excellent free junior cycle training scheme and junior road safety programmes.

Better Transport

We recognise the importance of all forms of transport across the Borough. Trafford Conservatives will ensure that the Council actively works with cycling & walking partners, taxi operators, bus & rail operators, car park owners, the GMPTE plus businesses and schools to provide better transport links for all across the whole of the Borough.
