Culture and Sport

Trafford Conservatives fully recognise the importance of all aspects of Culture & Sport to the Borough. There are continuing constraints due to the restricted funding from Government. However, whilst spending remains in the lower comparative quartile, satisfaction levels remain high.

Libraries are at the centre of the life of Trafford. We recognise that they undertake an essential community role. This year will see the start of the process of merging our Library Service with Trafford Direct. With the introduction of some £1/2m of new technology, our aim is to deliver both services though all 14 of our library buildings. Additionally, we are also investigating the possibility of delivering Trafford Direct services from our mobile library service.

Through the development of further technology our aim is to allow our customers to not only access books, videos and DVD’s etc, but to create a service whereby within the one visit they can receive general Council advice, report Council related issues or problems, and even pay for Council related services.

With building works starting on the new Urmston Library and with general efficiency improvements and modernisation of the overall service, we believe the service we provide will attract even more users.
