Community Safety

Community Safety continues to be a clear priority for this Conservative administration & will continue to be at the forefront of our thinking.

Working in an effective Partnership with the Trafford Division of Greater Manchester Police through the Safer Trafford Partnership, we continue to develop a “shared” thinking approach which is delivering some of the best results within Greater Manchester.

In 2006/2007 we invested one million pounds into this Partnership to support special operations. This trend will continue throughout 2008 with additional investment to enhance initiatives already supported, such as additional CCTV cameras, a further increase in Street Crime Patrollers, and the development & implementation of a strategy to protect both our Parks & Park users against anti-social behaviour through the delivery of multi-agency working.

The addition of more personnel to our Trafford Watch patrols recognises the pressures faced by the Police and the expectation that Police Community Safety Officers (PCSO’s) and the Street Crime Patrollers now have to attend certain levels of incident in lieu of police officers.

Our border with Manchester includes a section adjoining Moss Side. The guns & gang culture has unfortunately crossed that divide, but only to a limited extent. Trafford Council & GMP are committed to eliminating any threat posed to our Borough by a gun culture. Many partner agencies have joined together to tackle this issue. GMP, with the involvement of the Council have been at the forefront of actions against such gangs, including a number of targeted & successful operations.

KEY COMMITMENT- As well as funding 3 community safety officers. Trafford Conservatives will allocate yet another £100,000 of Council funds into specific community safety initiativesThis sum will be used on an array of measures which include more CCTV cameras; better security for certain vulnerable car parks; alley-gating schemes to improve residential and district security; and importantly, more Street Crime Patrollers.
