Graham Brady - MP for Altrincham and Sale WestGraham Brady was elected MP for Altrincham and Sale West in 1997, becoming the youngest Conservative MP. Following the 2010 general election Graham was elected Chairman of the 1922 Committee, representing all backbench Conservative MPs.
He has fought for numerous local causes in the House of Commons: defending grammar and high schools; fighting to keep Altrincham General Hospital and the Transplant Unit at Wythenshawe; intervening to prevent building on playing fields; campaigning to reduce railway noise for constituents. He is an active supporter of a number of local charities.
Previous parliamentary appointments have included: 1997-2000 House of Commons Select Committee for Education and Employment; 1998-2000 elected member of the 1922 Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Conservative Party; 1999 he was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chairman of the Conservative Party, the Rt. Hon. Michael Ancram MP; 2000-1 Shadow Minister for Employment; 2001-3 Shadow Minister for Schools, 2003-4 Parliamentary Private Secretary to Michael Howard, Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition, 2004-07 Shadow Minister for Europe, 2007-2010 Treasury Select Committee, 2009-10 Committee on Parliamentary Reform.
He was Chairman of Durham University Conservative Association (1987-1988); Chairman of Northern Area Conservative Students (1989-1989); a Member of the Conservative Party's National Union Executive Committee (1988-1989) and Vice-chairman of East Berkshire Conservative Association (1993-1995); Graham was co-author of a CPS pamphlet, "Towards an Employees Charter, away from Collective Bargaining".
Graham Brady was born in Salford in 1967. He was educated at Heyes Lane Primary School, Altrincham Grammar School and the University of Durham, where he studied law. He is married to Victoria and they have two young children. Prior to his election to Parliament he was Public Affairs Director of the Waterfront Partnership, having previously worked at the Centre for Policy Studies and Shandwick plc, where he trained in public relations.
