Stanley Johnson Supports Trafford Conservatives

Stanley Johnson, father of Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, lent his support to Conservatives in Trafford this weekend by speaking at a local fundraising dinner and then visiting prospective MP, Alex Williams, in Stretford and Urmston the following day. He also found time to visit the Imperial War Museum to see the Don McCullin exhibition.
Stanley gave a typically hilarious speech to the dinner guests, recounting his varied and fascinating life as a politician, poet and environmentalist, not to mention his role as Boris Johnson’s dad.

Stanley backed Alex's bid to be the next MP for Stretford and Urmston:

"I wish Alex all the best in the forthcoming campaign. He will make a great MP and has already shown through his work on Trafford Council what a difference he can make."

Thanking him after his speech, Alex said

"Stanley Johnson has had a long and distinguished career in the Conservative Party, first joining the Conservative Party's candidates list in 1971.  He was an MEP from 1979 to 1984 and just missed out on election as the MP for Teignbridge at the last General Election."

"If there was a 'Father of the House' position for aspiring Conservative candidates, then the holder would surely be Stanley Johnson."
