24/02/10 - Conservatives Supporting Altrincham Market

Trafford Council's Leader, Cllr Matthew Colledge, recently visited Altrincham Market as part of plans by local Conservatives to try to reinvigorate the market place.
Instead of his usual shopping trip Matthew spent a morning behind the stalls talking to traders and shoppers alike.

After the visit he said 'For many years the market has been the heart of Altrincham  and it is clear to me that visitors and traders want a vibrant and bustling market place. There are many stalls selling high quality products at good prices but to really capture the imagination of shoppers across Altrincham and Sale we need to see more stalls, a greater variety of produce and better facilities. I have set up a task group of traders, shoppers and community group members to work with the Council to drive forward a number of good ideas to get the market back up to full swing.'

The task group, formed at the end of 2009 have already put forward a number of practical ideas that are going to be implemented by Trafford Council and will be looking to develop the market throughout 2010 by attracting new stall holders and more shoppers.
