21/02/10 - Alex Williams joins Big Tidy Up in Partington

Deputy Leader of Trafford Council and Prospective Conservative MP for Stretford and Urmston, Alex Williams, joined forces with local Partington residents, local community group Friends of Cross Lane Park, Council staff and Community Payback workers this weekend to help clear up Cross
Lane Park.

It's part of Trafford's role as one of 11 national 'Tidy Up Champions' with a goal to gather 500,000 bags of litter across England.

Alex picked up a significant quantity of litter around the edge of the Park including soft drinks bottles, beer cans and plastic bags.

Alex said:

"This is a great initiative for the Borough and I'm delighted to have been able to help out in Partington. It was great to see so many residents out and to witness the fantastic work of Friends of Cross Lane Park. I know local people are extremely passionate about campaigns such as
this and it's great that we're receiving national recognition for all the work we do.''

"The council's Community safety Team supports groups doing tidy ups by providing litter pickers and bags while the Probabtion Service are able to provide additional support from Community Payback workers. If any other community groups are interested in doing a litter pick get in
touch and help us keep Stretford and Urmston a clean and green place for us all to enjoy."
