Trafford Council pays homage to borough's war dead

A large screen paying homage to Trafford's war dead has been launched at the Sale Waterside.

The huge 50 inch TV screen, funded by Trafford Council, will allow families of the borough’s fallen who’ve served in the armed forces since 1945 to search the Armed Forces Memorial Roll of Honour.

Access will also be available for a special Trafford specific search which is being managed by local historian George Cogswell, which allows people to search for family members who fought and lost their lives in the two world wars and the Anglo-Boer War between 1899-02.

Members of the public can access details of their loved ones by entering their surname or service number into the computer linked up to the screen, the information will then appear.

Leader of Trafford Council, Cllr Matt Colledge, who was at the projects lanch last week, said: "We must never forget the many courageous men and women who have given their lives for our country, particularly at this time of year when we come together to commemorate Remembrance Sunday."

The council's ambition is to develop an electronic ‘roll of honour’, in partnership with George Cogswell, in memory of those from Trafford who lost their lives serving their country.

If you would like the details of your loved one including and they appear on the roll we would ask that you print the details from the Armed Forces Memorial site and hand them to Local Studies staff based at the library at Sale Waterside.

The roll of honour can also be accessed via the Internet at www.trafford.gov.uk/remembrance
