Altrincham Conservative Councillor Alex Williams has tackled developer McCarthy & Stone, who have erected two large D board signs outside a retirement flat development on Barrington Road, Altrincham.
Following concerns raised by local residents, Cllr Williams took the matter up with the Councils planning department. An application was then hastily submitted by the developer for the two signs and three flagpoles. Following further objections from Cllr Williams and local residents, this application was subsequently refused and the planning enforcement team have been tasked with ensuring compliance from the developer.
Planners have also advised that the hoardings around the site are also unauthorised and that a planning application seeking retention of the hoardings is likely to be submitted shortly.
Cllr Williams commented, I am pleased with the planners decision. These signs were unauthorised and totally out of keeping with the nature and amenity of the road. I am disgusted that the signs were erected without the necessary permission. This should be a warning to all developers that they cannot flout planning rules in Altrincham.
