Trafford Conservatives took to the streets on Saturday 8th November to collect signatures for a petition against the proposed congestion charge.
Over two thousand local residents pledged their support for the campaign to Stop the Charge and Vote No in the forthcoming referendum.
Shoppers in Altrincham, Hale, Urmston, Sale and Stretford enthusiastically welcomed the No team, taking leaflets for their friends and family and agreeing to display Vote No car bumper stickers to publicly demonstrate the opposition to the scheme.
Councillor Susan Williams, Leader of Trafford Council, enthused This is a campaign that really has captured the hearts and minds of local residents. The message from them was very clear. They do not want to shell out an extra £1200 a year just to go to work, especially at times of such economic difficulty.
Susan added Over the coming weeks, Trafford Conservatives will be demonstrating how flawed the congestion charge scheme is, and how little benefit it will have for public transport, not just in Trafford, but across Greater Manchester.
Ballot papers will be issued to all eligible households from 27th November. Voters have until the 5th December to post back their vote and ensure it is counted.
