Four local Conservative councillors have managed to secure influential positions on the committees that oversee the provision of key services to the residents of Trafford.
At the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, Timperley Ward Councillor Matt Colledge was installed as Chairman and will take overall responsibility for the future of Greater Manchesters public transport network. Cllr Colledge has vowed to ensure that any consultation around the congestion charge remains fair and balanced.
Altrincham Councillor Michael Young was re-elected as the Vice Chairman of the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority, the body that administers the rubbish collected by local authorities and champions recycling.
Councillor James Pearson from Broadheath Ward became the youngest ever Vice Chairman of the Greater Manchester Fire Authority and will take the lead in ensuring the continuous improvement of fire service provision across the county.
Cllr Susan Williams, the Leader of Trafford Council, became a Vice Chairman of AGMA, the association that brings together all ten Greater Manchester authorities and works on a range of key strategic and policy issues that affect the city region.
A spokesman for the Conservative group in Trafford commented, Congratulations must go to all four Trafford councillors in securing these important positions. For the first time, Labours dominance of these authorities is ebbing away and we are seeing the political landscape across Greater Manchester change. I am sure the knowledge and input of our Conservative councillors will help to improve the services provided by these bodies, for the benefit of all Trafford residents.
