A campaign by local residents coupled with innovative thinking from a local Councillor has resulted in the installation of three benches in a local park.
Salisbury Park, in Broadheath, is used by a variety of different groups, including dog walkers and young people, and is the home of the local junior football team.
The issue of installing benches in the park was first raised a number of months ago by local residents, who were concerned that many elderly or disabled people may struggle to use the park to its full potential because they had nowhere to rest if they needed to.
Broadheath Councillor Brenda Houraghan was quick to act and contacted the environment team at Trafford Council, and pointed out that benches were being removed in preparation for the Urmston town centre redevelopment and asked if they could be transferred to Broadheath. The Council agreed and the benches were fitted a few weeks ago.
Delighted local resident, Dave Tolley, said All of the residents are over the moon that these benches have arrived. It is such a nice park and it is wonderful to see so many more people able to take advantage of it. I would like to thank Cllr Houraghan for her support and creativity in having the benches installed.
Cllr Houraghan commented, The best part of being a local councillor is helping residents and resolving their issues. We have been able to recycle benches that would otherwise have been destroyed, and I am sure they will be well used and appreciated by the local community and allow more people to enjoy Salisbury Park.
