As part of an ongoing commitment to make Trafford cleaner, local Conservatives have announced an additional £150,000 will be invested in street cleaning this year.
In the drive for cleaner streets, Trafford Council asked ENCAMS (formerly the Tidy Britain group) to look in detail at how clean the Borough was and to highlight areas for improvement. The ENCAMS survey represents a change in how the Council measures street cleaning and will easily identify which issues are important to Trafford residents and allow resources to be targeted more effectively.
In response to the report, local Conservatives have: -
· Provided three extra street cleaning teams resulting in an increase from 66% to 75% of our streets being assessed as clean
· Carried out an anti-cigarette litter campaign resulting in a 14% drop in smoking related litter
· Introduced the Tidy Business Awards to encourage businesses to support the Council in achieving a cleaner borough
Executive Member for Environmental Services, Cllr Jonathan Coupe, commented This is excellent news for local people. Councillors are regularly being told by residents that keeping our streets clean and improving the environment we live in is a big priority for them. Trafford Conservatives will always listen to and engage with our community and this demonstrates our commitment to allocate resources in peoples priorities.
Deputy Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Highways & Transportation, Cllr Matt Colledge, enthused The additional money we are spending will ensure every ward will be deep cleaned by one of our road sweepers approximately every eight weeks. We are determined to look at pro-active ways we can improve our Borough and already the changes being made are having a noticeable impact on the cleanliness of Trafford.
