Cllr. Christine Turner backs Urmston Phase 2
Friday, 17 February 2012 16:43

As promised, Trafford's Conservative Council is delivering Phase 2 of the Urmston Town Centre Redevelopment.

Urmston Councillor Christine Turner, who took a lead role in negotiating with the developers to allow the project to move forward said: "The Conservative Council has been working with the developer to ensure that phase 2 could commence, despite the severe financial situation the country faces that started during the last years of the Labour Government.

My Conservative colleagues and I have also been working behind the scenes to make sure that empty shops are let, and the current vacancy rate in Urmston is far better that Stockport and Eccles where the vacancy rates are 30% and 30.3%.

It is a testament to the work of your local Conservative Councillors, the developer and Town Centre Partnership that phase 2 has started in the middle of a recession.

With over 80% of phase 2 shops let, this really is the catalyst to move Urmston forward. I am personally very committed to the redevelopment of the town centre, a commitment that I have made many times and one that I intend to keep."
